Review ✎ Donut Fall In Love

Donut Fall In Love is an adult romance novel written by Jackie Lau and published in 2021.

I normally elect to ignore the quoted praise printed on covers or the front matter of a book, but I admittedly enjoyed reading the ones that were food-related comparisons. They matched and portrayed the sweet nature of the book.

I found this novel on a Barnes & Noble table promoting romance books. This is a table I frequent, and the synopsis appeared promising. I used to work in a bakery of sorts, and I always enjoy a good bakery romance.

It took me just under three weeks to read Donut Fall In Love, but I read a majority of it within the period of a couple days. At the time, I was dealing with some instability during what was a canceled vacation, so despite the free time, I was choosing to paint baseboards and deep clean the house while I had the opportunity.

If I’d started the book at a different point in time, it would have been at most a two day read.

Unlike other contemporary romances I’ve read recently, Ryan and Lindsay don’t dance around their attraction to one another. They don’t have a reason to put off starting their relationship when they both realize the potential. Their relationship may have started quick, but it was no Romeo and Juliet.

For the most part, their communication is what I think every relationship should aspire to be. They are good at talking to each other. I say mostly, only because there is one instance that makes sense to have some wrong assumptions.

My only point of criticism is the phrase variation. Between stints of reading, I stopped because of the number of times I read one figure of speech. It can distract me from the book if I pick up on a pattern mid-read, but after the half-way point, I didn’t continue to have that problem.

I liked reading Donut Fall In Love. It was cute, the pacing was nice, and if I feel like indulging myself in something sweet, I’d reread it.
